TheSunnis believe that Muhammad's companions Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali (in that order) were, by democratic election, the four "rightly-guided" caliphs, that is, immediate successors of Muhammad. all believe that the hidden Muhammad ibn al-Askari will be the Imam Mahdi. What is most significant, on the other hand, is the possibility Shia call Sunnis Nawasib despite Sunnis having profound respect for Ahlul Bayt and especially Imam Ali KW. It is an explicit Sunni teaching to show love for Ahl Al Bayt and also this has legal manifestations - preferring to free them over other slaves, Kaafah, lesser tazir punishments, Khums etc. Shia and Sunni prefer/give leadership to Ahlul Bayt over others in some way - Sunnis prefer Sunnireference: History of al-Tabari, English version, v15, p200. Uthman was besieged in Medina while Imam 'Ali (as) was in Khaibar. The Imam (as) came to Medina and found people gathering at the residence of Talha. Then Imam 'Ali (as) went to met Uthman. Ibn Athir wrote:
Rather they took pride in killing Imam Husain (a.s) and his Shi'ah. After the tragedy of Karbala, Ibn Ziad ascended the Minbar in the Masjid of Kufa and said: "All praise belongs to Allah who revealed the truth and killed the liar Husain son of the liar and his Shi'ah (followers)!" (Al-Mufid, al-Ershad, p.244) 10.
Imamate(Arabic: الإمامة), from Shi'a point of view, is the leadership of the Islamic society, designated by God to succeed the Prophet (s) in all religious and worldly affairs. It is among the principles of Shi'a school and one of the points of difference between Shi'a and Sunnis. The importance of this principle among Shi'a led them to be titled as Imamiyya.
